RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior guard Zacc Carter became the 30th player in McMurry Men's Basketball history to score 1,000 career points Saturday, as the War Hawks concluded their season with a 100-73 loss at UT Dallas.
Carter reached 1,000 points late in the first half after converting a free throw.
The senior trio of Carter, forward Mike Williams Jr. and guard Dedrick Berry Jr. scored 46 of the 73 points on the afternoon, all reaching double figures. Williams recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 boards, while Berry and Carter scored 14 and 10 points, respectively.
McMurry got off to a slow start, trailing by seven in the opening minutes. However, the War Hawks tied the score at 21 at the 12:25 mark after a three by Berry. UTD then answered with a 13-0 run snapped by another Berry triple.
Carter's free throw for 1,000 points got McM back within seven, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way as the Comets shot 63.3 percent in the first half and 57.4 percent for the game. The Hawks shot 45.9 percent overall.
McM's only lead of the game came in the opening minute, when sophomore guard Jordan Sherman drove into the paint for a layup. Sherman scored seven points, while freshman guard Brad Milliorn scored a career-best eight points.
The War Hawks had their best shooting game of the season from beyond the arc, connecting on 11-of-27 attempts for 40.7 percent. Berry finished 4-for-8 from three-point range.
