CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – McMurry University Men's Basketball was officially eliminated from a chance at a postseason berth Thursday night after a 101-82 road loss at the University of the Ozarks.
The War Hawks (7-17, 4-11 ASC) once again had a halftime lead at 36-35, but the Eagles (8-16, 4-11 ASC) scored 66 points and shot 63.6 percent in the second half to pull away.
Ozarks started the second half on a 16-4 run to take a 51-40 lead, but McM did not go away. The War Hawks pulled back within two at 61-59 after a jumper in the paint by forward Sherack Malokwu.
However, the Eagles went on a 13-2 run for a 74-61 advantage. McMurry once again battled back to get within six multiple times, but Ozarks made 14 free throws in the final minutes for the final tally.
The first half went back-and-forth, with the teams being tied four times and trading the lead seven times. Neither team led by more than five, and McM ended the half on a 5-0 run.
Senior forward Mike Williams Jr. scored a team-high 24 points and had a game-high nine rebounds. He shot 6-for-11 from the floor and was a perfect 12-of-12 at the free throw line. Senior guard Zacc Carter scored 18 points, and now sits at 999 for his career.
Freshman guard Cody LeBlanc gave McM three in double figures, scoring 17 points and was 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Overall, the War Hawks shot 45.2 percent from the field, while Ozarks shot 53.8 percent. Each team had 36 rebounds.
The War Hawks conclude their season Saturday at 3 p.m. at UT Dallas.
