Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis tops Schreiner, 8-1

KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis kept things rolling Saturday, as the War Hawks earned an 8-1 victory at Schreiner University.

The War Hawks (4-1) swept doubles play, which included a pair of 8-4 wins at numbers one and three by Claire Hillyer & Hope Turner and Kiara Jones & Mandy Roberson, respectively.

At number two doubles, Gabrielle Ellwanger and Neah Garza eked out an 8-7 (5-0) win.

With a comfortable lead after doubles, McMurry built its lead in singles play, but it didn't come easy. Three singles matches went all three set, with the war Hawks taking two of those three.

Hillyer won set one 6-1 before falling 7-5 in set two at number one. In the third set, Hillyer pulled away for the 10-7 win. Mandy Roberson won the other three-set thriller for the War Hawks, dropping set one 6-2 before bouncing back with a 6-3 set two win. She won a marathon in the third set, 14-12.

At number three, Morgan Parnell suffered the only defeat of the day, but it wasn't because of a lack of effort. Parnell won set one, 6-4, but had to go to a third set after dropping set two, 6-1. She went back-and-forth in that final set, but fell 12-10.

Garza cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at number two, while Ellwanger did the same at number three with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Turner rounded out the McM lineup at number six with a 6-0, 7-6 (5-0) win.
