LONGVIEW, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis improved to 2-0 on the young season Saturday with a convincing 8-1 win at LeTourneau.
McMurry swept doubles play before taking five of the six singles matches.
At number one doubles, junior Claire Hillyer and freshman Hope Turner paired up for an 8-3 victory. The duo of junior Morgan Parnell and freshman Mandy Roberson one-upped their teammates with an 8-2 win at number three.
To conclude doubles play, junior Gabrielle Ellwanger and senior Neah Garza blanked their opponents with a 8-0 win at number two.
Garza and Ellwanger carried the strong play into singles, with Garza winning 6-3, 6-0 at number two and Ellwanger 6-0, 6-1 at number three.
Freshmen Mandy Roberson and Hope Turner continued the momentum from their first collegiate victories Friday into Saturday, with Roberson staking claim a 6-4, 6-2 win at number five and Tuner a 6-3, 6-1 win at number six.
Parnell rounded out the victories for McM with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four.
The War Hawks are next in action for their home opener February 8 at 3 p.m. against NCAA II Dallas Baptist at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
