AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry Women's Basketball had a rare off-night from behind the arc on Thursday evening, allowing American Southwest Conference foe Concordia Texas to defend home court with a 62-46 win inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
Despite the defense holding Concordia (6-9, 3-3 ASC) below average in scoring, the War Hawks (9-5, 2-4 ASC) went 0-12 behind the arc. Tonight was McMurry's first game without a three-point basket since Nov. 17, 2017.
Freshman Destiny Mathews had most of McMurry's production from the post, turning in 23 points to fall one short of a career-high. She also had 13 rebounds to mark her third double-double this season.
Senior Skyler Reyna also had a double-double, adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. She now has seven double-doubles on the year.
Both teams were locked into a defensive battle early, opening with 10 points each in the first quarter. The home-standing Tornadoes gradually grew a lead the rest of the way, taking a 25-20 lead into the half before pulling away in the second half.
McMurry shot below 50.0 from the free throw line for the first time all season, finishing 8-27 for 29.6 percent. Both sides shot around 34 percent on field goals.
The War Hawks continue their road swing on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tipoff from Belton, Texas is scheduled for 1 p.m.
