ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball was outscored 46-27 in the second half Saturday as it was defeated 90-65 by visiting Sul Ross State University inside Kimbrell Arena.
The Lobos (8-6, 5-0 ASC) shot 46.2 percent from the field in the half and went a perfect 17-of-17 at the line, while McMurry was held to just 28.6 percent for the half.
The War Hawks (6-8, 3-2 ASC) trailed by six at the break, and kept within striking distance for the first six minutes out of the locker room.
After Sul Ross extended the lead to a dozen, McM rallied with a 9-3 run, capped by a three by senior guard Dedrick Berry Jr. The triple pulled the War Hawks to within 55-49, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Sul Ross answered with a 17-0 run over the next five minutes and led by double figures the remainder of the game.
McMurry's only lead came at 2-0 after a pair of free throws by senior forward Mike Williams Jr. The Lobos responded with a three on the ensuing possession, and traded baskets with the War Hawks for the rest of the half.
Williams led three War Hawks in double figures with 12 points, while Berry and senior guard Zacc Carter each added 10 points. Forwards Krishawn Terry and Ron Hall each grabbed five boards. Terry and junior guard Colin Taylor chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.
McM will look to get back on track next Thursday as it visits Concordia Texas for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
