ABILENE, Texas – Junior midfielder Sky Reynolds scored her second career hat trick as McMurry University Women's Soccer opened American Southwest Conference play Thursday evening with a 5-1 win over visiting Belhaven University at Wilford Moore Stadium.
Reynolds netted her first goal of the game in the 15th minute, sending the ball arcing over the keeper's outstretched arms in the right hand corner of the net from the left side of the box to give the War Hawks a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Reynolds extended the McM lead to 3-1 after knocking in a deflection off a corner kick. She would earn the hat trick in the 76th minute, after intercepting a goal kick. With a defender in tow, she chipped the ball over the keeper once again for her third goal of the night.
McMurry got on the board in the 14th minute, less than a minute before Reynolds' first goal, when freshman forward Alyssa Daily tallied her fifth goal of the season.
Again within a minute of Reynolds' first goal, the Blazers cut the deficit to 2-1 on a penalty kick in the 16th minute.
Comfortably up 4-1, the War Hawks added one more to the final tally in the 89th minute. Stealing a pass just shy of midfield, sophomore midfielder Bri Caudle lined one past the keeper from 40 yards out with her left foot.
The War Hawks outshot the Blazers 15-9, including 8-6 in shots on goal. Junior Cindy Villasana recorded two saves in the first half, while senior Jordan Gregory tallied three saves in the second.
McMurry had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, as well.
ASC play continues Saturday, when Louisiana College comes to Wilford Moore Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
