GEORGETOWN, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer closed out the nonconference portion of their schedule unbeaten, as the War Hawks defeated Southwestern University 2-0 Sunday, in their final tune-up before American Southwest Conference play begins Thursday.
Freshman forward Alyssa Daily was active for the War Hawks (5-0-4) once again, leading the team with eight shots, six on goal. Daily got one of those shots to find the back of the net in the 26th minute, giving the War Hawks a 1-0 lead. The goal was unassisted.
McMurry got another unassisted goal in the second half, as freshman forward Ashlyn Heger collected her first collegiate goal in the 71st minute, providing the final tally.
In total, the War Hawks outshot the Pirates 14-10, including doubling up the Pirates in shots on goal, 10-5. Each team had one corner kick opportunity.
Junior midfielder Sky Reynolds had three shots on the afternoon, with two of them on target.
Goalkeepers Jordan Gregory and Cindy Villasana combined on the shutout, collecting five saves. Villasana had three of the saves in the second half, with Gregory grabbing two saves in the first.
Conference play begins Thursday when the War Hawks welcome Belhaven University to Wilford Moore Stadium for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
