Box Score KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University Volleyball defeated Schreiner University for the second time this season Tuesday night, as the War Hawks swept the Mountaineers, 25-11, 25-21, 25-23 on the road.
The War Hawks (6-0) came out of the gates strong, scoring the first five points of the match en route to an easy set one win. McM hit .306 in the set, led by five kills from senior outside hitter Jada Cortez and four from senior middle blocker Kianni Mitchell.
Defensively, McMurry held Schreiner to a -.026 hitting percentage.
Schreiner (2-4) gave the War Hawks a challenge in the second set, as McM was held to just a .043 attacking percentage. However, the McM defense was stellar again, limiting the Mountaineer attack. The teams went back and forth in the third set, as well, before the War Hawks ultimately put the match away.
Senior middle blocker Justice McGowan led five players with five or more kills by totaling eight, and hit .462 while adding three digs. Mitchell and Cortez each finished with six kills, while senior outside hitter Jordyn Burnell and freshman middle blocker Alexis Garcia each had five kills, respectively.
In the back row, freshman defensive specialist Chloe Mayfield led the War Hawks with 12 digs, while senior libero Jaelyn Green finished with 11.
Junior setter Lauryn Davis finished with 17 assists and six digs, and junior setter Brynn Warnack totaled seven helpers.
McMurry will face Schreiner once again Friday in its first game of the University of Dallas tournament.
