DALLAS, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis advanced to the American Southwest Conference semifinals with a victory over LeTourneau University Thursday, defeating the Yellowjackets, 5-3 in the quarterfinals at SMU's Turbin Stadium.

Trailing 3-2, Zayra Gomez, Neah Garza and Briana Perez scored wins at numbers five, four and six singles, respectively, to clinch the win. Gomez tied the match with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at number five.

After tying it up, Garza put the War Hawks (10-8) ahead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number four. Perez then clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at number six.

McMurry held a 2-1 lead after doubles, as Gomez and Claire Huffine cruised to an 8-1 win at number two and Gabrielle Ellwanger and Garza took an 8-2 win.

Ellwanger was in the third set at number three singles, but the match went unfinished as the War Hawks had already clinched the win. Samantha Ritz battled at number one singles, winning set one, but dropped sets two and three.

The War Hawks advance to the semifinals Friday at 2 p.m., where they will take on the host UT Dallas Comets.
