ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis swept its second straight American Southwest Conference opponent Friday afternoon, as the War Hawks topped Howard Payne, 9-0, on senior day at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
Before the match, the War Hawks (7-6, 2-0 ASC) honored seniors Samantha Ritz, Zayra Gomez and Briana Perez.
Gabrielle Ellwanger and Neah Garza got things started in doubles play with an 8-0 win at number three, followed by an 8-1 win at number two by Claire Huffine and Gomez. Ritz and Kaitlyn Roberts closed doubles play with an 8-3 victory at number one.
Huffine won the first singles match for the War Hawks, 6-0, 6-0 at number two, as three others also won without giving up a point. Perez, Morgan Parnell and Kylie Long all had clean sweeps at numbers four, five and six, respectively.
Ritz claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at number one while Gomez won 6-0, 6-2 at number two.
McMurry continues its homestand Sunday at 1 p.m. when UT Dallas visits the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
