ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Softball came up just short in its upset bid of 4th-ranked East Texas Baptist Friday evening at Red Bud Park, falling to the Tigers, 6-0 and 4-1.
The War Hawks conclude their 2019 season Saturday at noon against the Tigers and will honor their four seniors after the game.
East Texas Baptist 6, McMurry 0
The War Hawks (13-24, 8-18) were held without a hit until the seventh inning as the Tigers (35-4, 25-1) took game one. Defensively, McMurry committed five errors leading to five unearned runs.
With two outs in a scoreless game in the second, the Tigers took advantage of two dropped fly balls to score four times. They then used a pair of doubles to score a run in the third and added another unearned run in the fifth.
Pinch hitter Reyna Garcia provided the lone hit with a single through the right side with two outs in the seventh. McMurry had runners on base throughout the game on four walks and a hit by pitch.
Hope Schoeneman pitched well in the circle, tossing all seven innings. Of the six runs allowed, only one earned run was charged to Schoeneman's line. She struck out seven and allowed seven hits.

McMurry scored a run in the first inning without the aid of a hit, but was unable to hold off the Tigers.
After the first two batters were retired in the first, McMurry loaded the bases on a hit by pitch and back-to-back walks. Leftfielder Sarah Nagy then drove in the first run of the game when she was hit by a pitch, as well, with the bases loaded.
The War Hawks held that 1-0 lead until the fifth, when the Tigers struck for three unearned runs with a two-out rally.
McMurry put the leadoff runner on in the sixth, but was unable to move the runner over as it was once again hitless through six innings.
Centerfielder Kollin Morris collected the War Hawks' lone hit in the seventh with a single up the middle. McMurry once again had numerous runners on via the walk and hit by pitch.
Emily Levario allowed three unearned runs over five innings in the circle, striking out two with one walk and eight hits allowed. Cheyenne West pitched the final two innings in relief.
