AUSTIN, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis suffered a 7-2 American Southwest Conference loss Thursday afternoon when the War Hawks visited Concordia Texas at the Austin Tennis Center.
The War Hawks (5-10, 2-2 ASC) took the early 1-0 lead when Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell claimed an 8-2 win at number one doubles. This marks the eighth straight win for Daniell and Martinez at number one doubles.
Later tied at one apiece, Chris Causer and Joseph Diaz lost a tightly contested match at number three doubles, 9-7.
The Tornados then went on to win five of the six singles matches, with Martinez claiming McMurry's final point at number one. After dropping set one via the tiebreaker at 7-6 (7-5), Martinez came back to take set two, 6-3. He then easily won the third set, 12-3.
Diaz put up a battle at number five, as well, before falling in three sets. After falling in set one, 6-3, Diaz bounced back to win set two, 6-2. In a contested third set, Diaz came up just short, dropping the set, 10-8.
McMurry is right back at it Friday with a visit to Mary Hardin-Baylor with first serve at 2 p.m.
