ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis got off to a strong start in American Southwest Conference play, as it swept Sul Ross State on the road Friday afternoon.
The War Hawks (5-6, 1-0 ASC) rolled through doubles play, as Claire Huffine and Zayra Gomez and Gabriellle Ellwanger and Neah Garza earned 8-0 victories at number two and three, respectively. Samantha Ritz and Kaitlyn Roberts picked up an 8-3 win at number one.
Moving to singles play, McMurry captured the win after a 6-1, 6-2 by Ritz at number one and 6-0, 6-1 win by Huffine at number two. Garza claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at number three.
With the match already in hand, the final three matches were played with just one set. Morgan Parnell picked up a win in her first action of the year at number six, winning 8-0, with Briana Perez earning the same result at number six. Gomez won 8-1 at number four.
McMurry returns home to host Schreiner University at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
