SEGUIN, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis got back on track Saturday afternoon, defeating Texas Lutheran University on the road, 5-4.
The War Hawks (2-8) trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but took four out of the six singles matches to earn the come from behind victory. At number one, Carlos Martinez earned a straight set, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Chase Daniell followed Martinez at number two, winning in straight sets as well, 6-3, 6-1. Joseph Diaz earned the third straight set singles win for McMurry at number four, notching a 6-3, 7-5 win.
Stone Coston sealed the victory for the War Hawks with a three-set win at number five. Coston won the first set handily, 6-1, before dropping set two, 6-4. He bounced back in set three with a convincing 6-2 win.
In doubles play, Martinez and Daniell cruised to an 8-2 win at number one. At number two, it was as close as it could get. Tied at 7-7, the Bulldogs (4-3) earned the point after winning the tiebreak over Zach Miller and Connor Hogan, 7-5, for the 8-7 win.
McMurry will travel to Sul Ross State March 29 for its American Southwest Conference opener.
