ABILENE, Texas – The match came down to the final few points as McMurry Men's Tennis was topped 5-4 in a nonconference match versus LeTourneau University Saturday at the Abilene Country Club.
Tied at 4-4 heading into the final match at number six singles, Zach Miller and Jeffrey Golladay of LeTourneau went all three sets to decide the victor. Miller won the first set, 6-4, before Golladay won set two, 6-1. The third set went the distance before Golladay pulled out the 11-9 win to give the Yellow Jackets the win.
McMurry picked up three singles points, with two of them also coming in three sets. Carlos Martinez won at number one 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 and Joseph Diaz rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win at number four. The third point came way of Chase Daniell at number two, who won a tight match as well, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
The War Hawks tallied one point in doubles, with Connor Hogan and Miller collecting an 8-5 victory at number two.
McMurry is off until after spring break when the War Hawks welcome Connecticut College to the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center March 17 at 1 p.m.
