ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Tennis won its second match in a row, defeating University of the Ozarks, 9-0, Sunday morning at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
The War Hawks (2-4) gained control in doubles play, with Zayra Gomez and Claire Huffine taking the first point of the day at number two, 8-1.
At number one, Samantha Ritz and Kaitlyn Roberts won their match, 8-2, with Kiara Jones and Morgan Parnell closing out doubles with an 8-4 win at number three.
McMurry carried that momentum into singles play, with Huffine nearly missing a sweep at number two, winning 6-0, 6-1. Ritz won at number one 6-3, 6-3, and Briana Perez won 6-1, 6-1, at number six.
Both Neah Garza and Zayra Gomez won 6-4, 6-2, at number four and five singles, respectively. Gabrielle Ellwanger won her first set, 7-6, in a tiebreaker, before dominating the second set, 6-0, at number three.
The War Hawks will be at home once again March 2 when they take on LeTourneau University at 10 a.m.
