ABILENE, Texas – Junior right-handed pitcher Hope Schoeneman threw a complete game shutout as McMurry University Softball defeated Hardin-Simmons University, 7-0, in the series finale as the War Hawks took the series from the Cowgirls.
This is the fourth complete game of the season for Schoeneman, who had a complete game win in game one of the series, as well. She improves to 5-2 on the year after allowing just five hits and striking out eight.
The War Hawks (7-7, 2-4 ASC) took advantage of four Cowgirl (4-8, 1-2 ASC) errors on the afternoon, including three in the first inning, where they scored four runs.
Two of the first three batters reached on errors in the first, with outfielder Ashley McClellan scoring on the second error after reaching on a walk. Designated player Kasey Woolard then doubled in a run before outfielder Kollin Morris capped the four-run frame with a two-run single.
Woolard connected on her second double of the game in the top of the second, driving in two more runs as McMurry took a 6-0 lead.
Schoeneman helped her own cause by scoring in the sixth on a groundout by shortstop Mikayla Krause for the War Hawks' final run.
McClellan and Woolard each finished with two hits, with Woolard driving in three and McClellan scoring a pair of runs. Krause also scored two runs, and Morris tallied two RBIs on the afternoon.
The War Hawks will face their toughest test of the season next weekend, when they visit UT Tyler for a three game series beginning Friday at 4 p.m.
