ABILENE, Texas – Head Coach Bryan Rainwater picked up his first career men's tennis coaching win, as McMurry defeated University of the Ozarks, 9-0, Sunday at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
Joseph Diaz and Chris Causer picked up a commanding 8-0 win at number three doubles, as the War Hawks (1-5) took the early lead in doubles. Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell claimed an 8-3 win at number one, while Zach Miller and Connor Hogan took the point at number two, 8-2.
Moving to singles play, the War Hawks won numerous sets without allowing a point. Stone Coston had the clean sweep at number five, 6-0, 6-0. Hogan, Martinez and Miller allowed just one point in their two match wins, with Hogan winning 6-0, 6-1 at number three and Miller winning 6-1, 6-0 at number six. Martinez won at number one, 6-0, 6-1.
At number two singles, Daniell won 6-2 in set one before being tested in set two. But Daniell prevailed in set two, 6-4. Diaz won at number four, 6-1, 6-2.
McMurry will look to make it two in a row when they host LeTourneau University March 2 at 10 a.m.
