ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University Women's Basketball closes out the regular season this Saturday with Round Two of the Crosstown Showdown, hosting Hardin-Simmons University at 1 p.m. It will also serve as senior day for the War Hawks.
McMurry split its final road trip of the year, losing a heartbreaker at Howard Payne, 82-76, before bouncing back with an 80-78 win at the buzzer over Sul Ross. The War Hawks led for nearly three quarters against the Yellow Jackets before a seesaw fourth quarter went in favor of HPU. McMurry trailed by double digits in the first half against the Lobos before battling back in the second half. Junior forward Skyler Reyna hit the game-winning jumper in the paint with two seconds left for the win.
With the win at Sul Ross and a loss by Concordia Texas to Mary Hardin-Baylor, the War Hawks captured the fourth seed in the ASC West Division for the conference tournament to be hosted next weekend by the Crusaders.

SCOUTING HSU: Hardin-Simmons sits in second in the West Division, currently at 17-7, 10-5 ASC. They have won eight of their last nine games, with their lone loss at Howard Payne. Junior guard Taylor Gaffney leads the Cowgirls with 13.0 points per game, while three others average at least eight points. Freshman forward Keilee Burke grabs a team-high 10.5 boards per game while adding 7.3 points per contest.
LAST TIME OUT VERSUS THE COWGIRLS: HSU used a 29-point second quarter to break a tie at the end of the first as the War Hawks tried to rally in the second half. Sarah Doherty hit a runner at the buzzer to force a tie at 13 at the end of the first period, but the Cowgirls couldn't miss in the second. Despite being down by double digits most of the half, the War Hawks fought back in the fourth quarter before falling, 72-64. Doherty led McMurry with 16 points, while Skyler Reyna and London Weilert added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Reyna also had 14 rebounds.

Reyna became the 10th player in program history to score 1,000 career points when she scored 31 points in the loss at Howard Payne.
BALANCING ACT: In all, McM has a total of seven players averaging better than 5.0 points per game this season. Additionally, seven players average more than 2.0 rebounds per game.
SHOOTING STAR: Freshman Savannah Johnson is shooting a team-leading .460 (74-161) in her first collegiate campaign. Doherty (.420) and Reyna (.403) join Johnson in shooting over 40.0 percent from the field.
SEEING DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Skyler Reyna has 15 double-double games, thus far, in 2018-19. In her career, Reyna has 34 double-double games.
HELPING HANDS: Junior guard Isabel Carrion leads McM in assists, averaging 2.9 "helps" per contest. She also contributes 5.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Carrion matched her single-game career-high with eight assists versus Covenant (12/29/18). She has at least two assists in 21 of the 24 contests.
AMONG THE ASC LEADERS: Individually, several War Hawks rank among the ASC statistical leaders: Scoring- Reyna (8th/14.4 ppg), Doherty (21st/10.8 ppg); Rebounds- Reyna (1st/10.5 rpg); Field Goal %- S. Johnson (8th/.460); Assists- Carrion (12th/2.9); Steals- Reyna (15th/1.7); 3-Point Field Goals Made- Doherty (11th/1.6 pg), Machuca (14th/1.4 pg); Blocked Shots- Doherty (8th/0.9 pg).
NEXT WEEK FOR McM: As the fourth seed in the West, McMurry will play the top seed from the East Division at next weekend's ASC Tournament hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor. UT Dallas and East Texas Baptist are currently tied for the top spot in the East, and will face off against each other tomorrow at ETBU.
