Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

War Hawks extend series streak at Schreiner, 68-46

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Women's Basketball used a 14-2 run in the third quarter to break up a close contest at Schreiner, as the War Hawks cruised to a 68-46 win in Kerrville on Saturday evening.

With the win, McMurry improved to a 4-1 record. Furthermore, the War Hawks have now won 27 straight games against Schreiner (0-4) in the all-time series, dating back to the 1999-00 season.

For the third straight game, senior post Skyler Reyna had an eye-catching stat line with 29 points and 18 rebounds – both game highs. The double-double was Reyna's third straight this season and the 11th in her last 14 games, dating back to the end of last season.

Reyna's 29 points fell only two points short of a career high, but carried more significance as she moved up to seventh on the all-time career scoring list at McMurry. She now has 1,165 points for her career, moving past former McMurry standout Melissa Peacock (1979-83) for seventh.

McMurry was locked in a tight contest through the first half, but never trailed by more than one possession with a 23-21 halftime lead. The third quarter turned the tide for the road team, as McMurry ended the frame on a 14-2 run.

Reyna finished 10-15 from the field and a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe. Freshman Destiny Mathews nearly joined her in the double-double club with 10 points and eight rebounds. Eight of her 10 points came in the third quarter run.

Senior Sarah Doherty and junior Francheska Aguino combined for 14 points, as both players sank a pair of three point baskets. Doherty also had four assists and three steals to lead the team in both categories.

The War Hawks look for a third straight win on Monday, Nov. 25 as they welcome Arlington Baptist to Kimbrell Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
