Volleyball set to conclude five game road trip

ABILENE, Texas – The five game road trip is nearing an end for McMurry University Volleyball, as the War Hawks conclude the road swing with visits to Sul Ross State University and Hardin-Simmons University.

McMurry makes the long trip to Alpine to face the Lobos Saturday at 2 p.m. before trekking across town to take on the Cowgirls for the second time this season Tuesday at 7 p.m. Live stats and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST TIME OUT: The War Hawks split last weekend at the American Southwest Conference Crossover, then swept divisional foe Howard Payne on Tuesday.

REMATCH: McM will look to avenge its loss to rival HSU on its home floor September 24 when the teams meet next Tuesday.

ASC LEADERS: Senior right side hitter Justice McGowan is second in the ASC with a .368 attack percentage. Senior outside hitter Jordyn Burnell is third in the conference with 3.24 kills per set while junior middle blocker Megan Martinez is second in service aces per set at 0.66 (27).

.200: The magic number for McMurry's offense is a .200 attack percentage. The War Hawks have hit above .200 in all 11 wins, but below .200 in all six losses.

SCOUTING SRSU: The Lobos enter Saturday's matchup with an even record of 8-8, but are just 1-5 in the ASC, having lost their last two matches. Annika Canaba paces the Lobos with 3.04 kills per set and is second with 3.46 assists per set. Hannah Zly leads the Sul Ross defense with 4.60 digs per set.

STREAKING: The War Hawks have won 20 straight matches over the Lobos, dating back to 2007. During that span, they have only lost four sets.

SCOUTING HSU: Hardin-Simmons is currently 4-8, 1-4 ASC, having been swept in four of their previous five matches. Triniti Anderson tops the Cowgirls' lineup with 2.79 kills, while Ashley Pierce sets it up with 8.31 assists per set. Defensively, Mary Johnson averages 4.36 digs per set. The Cowgirls visit Sul Ross State today before hosting Howard Payne Saturday ahead of the rematch with the War Hawks.
