Women's Soccer drops 1-0 contest to Cru

ABILENE, Texas – Second place was on the line in the American Southwest Conference for McMurry University Women's Soccer Saturday evening, as the War Hawks played host to visiting University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

In a defensive battle, the Cru came away with the 1-0 victory to keep their place in the standings.

The War Hawks held the Cru to just two shots in the first half, as the teams headed into the break scoreless. McMurry had five shots in the period, and each team had two shots on target. Starting goalkeeper Jordan Gregory recorded two saves.

Early in the second half, the Cru broke through the McM defense. UMHB got on the board in the 55th minute after converting a corner kick from the left corner.

Both teams had multiple other opportunities to find the back of the net, with McM firing off another five shots and the Cru six. UMHB had the only two shots on goal in the half.

Freshman forward Alyssa Daily and sophomore midfielder Ashland Hansen each had two shots to lead the War Hawks.

Normally an effective weapon for McM, the War Hawks were held without a corner kick opportunity while the Cru had six.

The War Hawks will conclude the regular season Friday night as they visit crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons University for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
