Volleyball to face tough road tests

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Volleyball will face the top two teams in the American Southwest Conference West Division this weekend, traveling to Concordia University Texas and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The War Hawks will face the Tornados at 6 p.m. Friday before facing the Crusaders at 4 p.m. Saturday. Live stats and video links can be found at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: McMurry went 4-0 last week, defeating Schreiner University in a nonconference matchup before topping Louisiana College, Belhaven University and East Texas Baptist University at the ASC Crossover.

4-0: Last week was the second time McMurry went 4-0 in a week, the first being the opening weekend at the Texas Lutheran Tournament. The War Hawks also finished off a 4-0 record versus Schreiner this season with the win last week.

12: A dozen of McMurry's wins this season have been three set sweeps.

BLOCK PARTY: The War Hawks had 11 total blocks in the win over Belhaven, the fifth highest total this season. The 20 assisted blocks were the second highest of the year. Freshman middle blocker Alexis Garcia had seven of those assisted blocks.

ASC TOURNEY: McMurry needs two wins to clinch a berth in the ASC Tournament, held November 7-9 at UT Dallas.

ASC LEADERS: Freshman middle blocker Alexis Garcia is second in the ASC in attack percentage (.364) as three War Hawks are in the top 10. Senior outside hitter Jordyn Burnell sits fourth in kills at 3.26 per set. Freshman libero Adile Leal is sixth in digs per set (3.93), while junior setter Lauryn Davis is sixth with 6.01 assists per set.

SCOUTING CTX: The Tornados are 18-5, 10-2 ASC, sitting second in the ASC West Division. They enter on a loss, but have won 10 of their last 12 games. Tristyn Massey leads the Tornado offense with 3.11 kills per set while also averaging 3.03 digs per set. Rylee Davis tops the back line with 4.07 digs per set, while Georgia Quiroz and Lianne VanDyke combine to average more than nine assists per set.

SCOUTING UMHB: The Cru lead the ASC West posting a 12-0 record in conference play and are 19-6 overall. After starting the season 4-4, UMHB has won 15 of 17 and are currently on a three-game win streak. Three players average more than to kills per set, led by Jenna Gillean at 2.64. Sarah Paolini tops the ASC in attack percentage (.367). Cory Jo Martin dishes out 9.05 assists per set, while Gillean also leads the team in digs at 3.75 per set.
