ABILENE, Texas – After a hot start to American Southwest Conference play at home, McMurry University Men's Soccer looks to keep that momentum as they head out on the road for two ASC contests.
The War Hawks visit LeTourneau University Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. showdown, before travelling to East Texas Baptist University Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Live stats and video links for both games can be found at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry started ASC play 2-0 after a 5-1 win over visiting Belhaven University and a 5-0 victory over Louisiana College.
UPSET: Belhaven was ranked No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches poll at the time of their defeat to the War Hawks.
ESTEBAN HONORED: Senior forward Miguel Esteban Jr. was named the ASC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals, three in the win over Belhaven and adding another in the victory over Louisiana College.
HAT TRICKS: Both Esteban and senior forward Javi Mejia had hat tricks in last week's wins. Esteban scored three times against Belhaven, including off an assists from Mejia, while Mejia scored three times versus Louisiana College.
ASC LEADERS: The War Hawks are tied for first in the ASC with 64 points and tied for second in goals. They lead the ASC with 18 assists. Individually, Mejia is tied for first with 17 points, while Esteban is tied for first with seven goals. Mejia is also tied for first with five assists.
SCOUTING LETU: LeTourneau enters Thursday's game at 2-5-2, 0-2 ASC after a pair of 3-0 losses to Mary-Hardin-Baylor and Concordia-Texas. Russell Gray leads the YellowJackets with four goals and 10 points, while Oscar Cravioto has added three goals.
SCOUTING ETBU: The Tigers have started the season just 2-6, 1-1 ASC, but are coming off a win over Mary Hardin-Baylor. Max Ponticorvo and Isaiah Simien each lead the Tigers with three goals, and Ponticorvo has added three assists to top the team with nine points.
