War Hawks suffer first loss of season to Comets

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night, dropping a 1-0 American Southwest Conference contest to University of Texas at Dallas at Wilford Moore Stadium.

Scoreless through the first 60 minutes of action, the Comets eventually pushed through the game winner in the 61st minute on a breakaway, getting a goal by Kaitlyn Manning after an assist by Stephanie White.

The War Hawks would continue to push until the final whistle, finishing with six shots in the second half. McMurry had four shots on goal, overall, one each by four different players. Freshman forward Alyssa Daily had three shots, while junior forward Calista Flores attempted two.

McMurry's defense was strong once again, holding UTD to just six shots and two on goal. Junior goalkeeper Cindy Villasana recorded one save in a half of action.

Both teams possessed the ball and played pressure defense without fouling, as just four fouls were called throughout the game.

Each team had one corner kick opportunity apiece, with both coming in the second half.

The War Hawks will look to start a new unbeaten streak Saturday, when they host University of the Ozarks at 1 p.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium.
