Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Butler records double-double in loss to Tornados

AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore guard Khalil Butler recorded a double-double, but the McMurry University men's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start in a 97-62 American Southwest Conference loss at West Division foe Concordia University Texas Thursday night.

After the War Hawks (4-12, 1-6 ASC) quickly tied the game at 2-2, Concordia went on a 16-0 run and never looked back, building up a 34-point lead in the first half. The Tornados (7-9, 5-2 ASC) shot 48.6 percent from the field as they took a 50-23 lead into the break.

While the War Hawks shot the ball well (44.2 percent) for the game, they turned the ball over a season-high 32 times, leading to a 39-12 advantage for the Tornados in points off turnovers as well as a 22-10 edge in fastbreak points.

McMurry played most of the second half even with the Tornados, but could only get within 24 points as Concordia grabbed a 37-point lead - their largest of the game - near the end of regulation.

Butler snagged 14 rebounds as the War Hawks won the battle on the boards, 42-34. He chipped in 14 points as well, right behind junior guard Trevin Ramirez's team-high 16 points. Junior guard Dedrick Berry added 12 points to give the War Hawks three players in double figures.

Junior forward Mike Williams Jr. tallied six points to go along with eight boards for the War Hawks, as well.

The War Hawks will wrap up their road trip Saturday at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:30 p.m.
