Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

War Hawks play to draw with Bulldogs

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Soccer played to their second tie of the season, tying with Jarvis Christian College 1-1 Saturday afternoon at Wilford Moore Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, the War Hawks tied it up in the 74th minute on senior forward Rafael Lara's second goal of the season, with the assists coming from sophomore midfielder Jordan Szcech.

The War Hawks (1-1-2) had a golden opportunity late in regulation, as senior defender Aaron Webb had a header off a set piece bounce off the bottom of the cross bar and narrowly miss crossing the goal line.

While neither team was able to do much in the overtime periods, the War Hawks thought they had the game-winner midway through the first overtime. Junior midfielder Jesus Sanchez played in a cross from the right side, which was headed into the back of the net by freshman midfielder Andres Martinez. However, the War Hawks were called offsides, negating the goal.

McMurry had 19 shots in the game, compared to just four for the Bulldogs. Junior goalkeeper Francisco Avilez had two saves.

Next up for the War Hawks is American Southwest Conference play Thursday against Sul Ross State University at 7:30 p.m.
