Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

War Hawks blanked by Patriots

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University men's soccer was shut out for just the second time this season, dropping a 3-0 decision to the University of Texas-Tyler at Wilford Moore Stadium. The War Hawks saw their record slip to 2-3-3 for 2018, while the Patriots upped their mark to 7-1-1.

For the first half, McMurry stayed with UTT in what was a fairly even battle, statistically.  The Patriots held a 10-8 advantage in shots, both teams had a pair of corner kicks and the War Hawks had four saves (compared to three for UTT).

The Patriots notched the only score of the opening segment in the waning seconds. McM goalkeeper Francisco Avilez stepped off his line to go after a loose ball, but the ball careened to UTT's Winner Asi, who slid in the open-net goal and a 1-0 UTT halftime lead.

The second half belonged to UT-Tyler. The Patriots took 12 shots, compared to four by McM, and three corners. For the game, Tyler took 22 shots and the War Hawks, 12.

Rafael Lara had four of McM's shot attempts. Aaron Webb had three shots, with two going directly on-goal. Miguel Esteban Jr. had one shot on-goal in two tries.

Avilez had seven total saves and was charged with all three goals.
