Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

War Hawks can't hold off Patriots, 4-2

ABILENE, Texas -  The McMurry University women's soccer team could not hold its halftime advantage versus perennial power University of Texas-Tyler, falling by a 4-2 score at Wilford Moore Stadium. The loss dropped the War Hawks to 2-7 on the year, while the Patriots upped their record to 6-1-1.

In the 26th minute of the match, sophomore Courtney Kendrick tallied the only goal of the entire first half. Kendrick took a shot on UTT goalkeeper Jade Crump, who made a save but did not control the ball, which deflected in the air. Kendrick then headed the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the year and gave the War Hawks a 1-0 lead going into the halftime locker room.

McM out-shot the Patriots in the opening 45 minutes by a 7-5 margin. McMurry starting goalie Cindy Villisana was stellar in keeping UTT at bay by making four saves.

However, the second half did not have the same results for the War Hawks' side. UT-Tyler would score three unanswered goals – all charged to McM junior goalie Jordan Gregory (who took over in the McM nets in the second half) – to grab a 3-1 lead.

In the 84th minute, McMurry cut into the deficit, this time courtesy of Sky Reynolds. The sophomore Reynolds – who transferred to McMurry from UT-Tyler – headed in a perfect pass from teammate Krista Thrasher for her third goal of 2018 and make the score 3-2.

The War Hawks could make no further headway, however. In the final 30 seconds, the Patriots added some insurance for the 4-2 final score.

McMurry will host the University of the Ozarks on Saturday (Sept. 29), with kickoff at 4 p.m.
