ABILENE, Texas – An action packed weekend lies ahead for McMurry University Volleyball, as the War Hawks travel to Alpine, Texas, for the American Southwest Conference crossover tournament Friday and Saturday.
The weekend slate includes matches Friday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. against East Texas Baptist University and LeTourneau University, respectively. Saturday sees the War Hawks take on 23rd-ranked UT-Tyler at noon to cap the weekend.

Last Week: The War Hawks continued their unbeaten streak to begin the season, recording sweeps against Schreiner University, Sul Ross State University and Howard Payne University.
Mitchell honored: Junior middle blocker Kianni Mitchell was honored as this week's ASC West Division Defensive Player of the Week. Mitchell recorded 12 kills and 10 blocks for a 1.67 blocks per set average in the wins over Schreiner and Sul Ross. Mitchell is currently second in the ASC in blocks per set at 1.15.
Conference Leaders: The War Hawks are first in nearly every offensive category in the ASC. They lead in hitting percentage (.276), assists per set (12.76), and kills per set (13.95). They are also first in opponent's hitting percentage (.064) and second in blocker per set (2.15).
Double-doubles: Both junior right side hitter Jordyn Burnell and junior setter Emarie James each have three double-doubles this season.
About ETBU: The Tigers are 8-6, 21 ASC in 2018. Junior Sydney Lopez is third in the ASC in kills per set at 3.64. McMurry defeated ETBU 3-2 last season.
About LETU: The War Hawks swept the Yellowjackets earlier this season at the Austin College Invitational. LeTourneau is 5-6, 2-1 ASC this season. Freshman Kianna Crow is second in the ASC in kills per set at 3.70.
About UT-Tyler: The Patriots are ranked 23rd in the latest AVCA poll. They are 8-1 on the season, including a win over a ranked Illinois Wesleyan squad and a tough five-set loss to a ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team. The Patriots are led by senior setter Reighanna Guzman, who lead the ASC with 9.76 assists per set.
