BROWNWOOD, Texas – McMurry University Volleyball recorded its eighth sweep of the season Tuesday night, defeating Howard Payne University 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 on the road in an American Southwest Conference matchup.

The War Hawks (11-0, 2-0 ASC) spread the ball around offensively, as five War Hawks recorded six or more kills. Senior outside hitter Jasmine Jones had a team-high nine, while junior right side hitter Jordyn Burnell and senior middle blocker Madison Reed had eight and six, respectively. Junior middle blockers Justice McGowan and Kianni Mitchell each added seven.

After falling behind 2-0 to begin the night, the War Hawks scored 11 of the next 14 points for an 11-5 advantage in the first set. The War Hawks would go on to score the final four points of the set to win, 25-18.

Set two mirrored the War Hawks' recipe for success this season. McMurry hit .324 while holding the Yellow Jackets (2-6, 1-2 ASC) to .087. In doing so, McMurry raced out to a 10-3 lead, before taking the set, 25-20.

After leading set three 9-4, the Yellow Jackets scored seven straight points later in the set to take a 17-13 lead. The run was ended on a kill by McGowan, and the War Hawks would score seven of the final eight points of the match to rally for the sweep.

Junior setter Emarie James just missed out on a double-double, recording 19 assists and nine digs. Sophomore setter Lauryn Davis tallied 16 assists, while senior libero Odalis Rodriguez led the War Hawks with 12 digs. Burnell also had nine digs.

A busy weekend lies ahead for the War Hawks, as they travel back to Alpine, Texas, for the ASC Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday.
