WAXAHACHIE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer dropped a nonconference matchup Saturday afternoon at Southwestern Assemblies of God, falling to the Lions, 3-2.
After a scoreless first half, the War Hawks (2-4) found themselves in a 3-0 hole 15 minutes into the second half. But the War Hawks would not go down easy.
Less than two minutes after the Lions scored their third goal, the War Hawks answered with their first goal of the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Ashland Hansen scored her first career goal after heading in a pass from sophomore forward Julia Renfrow in the 63rd minute.
The War Hawks would get within one in the 73rd minute. Sophomore forward Courtney Kendrick tallied her first score of the year on an assist by Hansen. Sophomore midfielder Sky Reynolds gave the War Hawks one more chance, but her shot was blocked by the Lions' defense.
McMurry outshot SAGU 14-8, including 9-4 in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Gregory had one save in 72:35 of action without allowing a goal.
The War Hawks return to American Southwest Conference play September 20 at LeTourneau University.
