Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Renfrow's first career goal not enough in loss to Lobos

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer came up just short in their American Southwest Conference opener, falling 2-1 to Sul Ross State University at Wilford Moore Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, the War Hawks (2-3, 0-1 ASC) went on the attack. Bringing the ball up the center of the field, freshman forward Abril Aguayo found sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Roberts on the right sideline. Roberts was able to center the ball to sophomore forward Julia Renfrow, who drilled a laser into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to tie the game, 1-1.

In the first half, the War Hawks outshot the Lobos (2-1, 1-0 ASC) 10-3. However, the Lobos struck midway through the second half when a foul was called on the War Hawks in the box, resulting in a Lobo penalty kick which gave Sul Ross a 2-1 lead.

McMurry had four shot attempts after the Lobo goal, but were unable to net the equalizer. For the game, the War Hawks outshot the Lobos 15-6.

Sophomore Cindy Villasana played all 90 minutes in net, allowing two goals while collecting three saves.

The War Hawks return to nonconference action Saturday at 4 p.m. when they visit Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas.
