MOBILE, Ala. – The McMurry University women's tennis team lost a pair of round-robin matches in pool play on day one of the National Christian College Athletic Association championships at the Mobile Tennis Center. The War Hawks (11-9) lost its morning match to Campbellsville University, 5-3, and dropped its afternoon bout to Dallas Baptist University, 6-0.
Versus the Campbellsville, McM lost at the numbers one and two doubles matches. At third doubles, the McMurry tandem of
Briana Perez and
Neah Garza earned win by default to make the score, 2-1 in favor of the Tigers.
In the singles matches, Campbellsville won three matches in straight sets to ice the victory. The War Hawks took a default at sixth singles where CU did not have a player.
McMurry sophomore
Neah Garza recorded her teams only other point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles over the Tigers' Bailey Decker.
In the afternoon match versus another NCAA Division II foe in Dallas Baptist University, the War Hawks were shutout by the Patriots. DBU won all three doubles matches and three singles contests in straight sets.
The War Hawks will close out pool play on Wednesday versus Judson University (Ill.) at 8:30 a.m. The top two teams from the two pools advance to the championship bracket play.
