ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University women's tennis capped the 2018 regular season with a 7-2 win over Concordia University-Texas at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks (11-7, 5-1 ASC West) will now wait to see if they receive an invitation to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship tournament, as one of the nation's top eight teams.
McMurry took a 2-1 lead in the team score by winning the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches. Freshman
Claire Huffine and junior
Zayra Gomez picked up their team-leading 10th win (10-3) with a 9-7 victory at line two doubles.
Briana Perez and Kaitlyn Roberts also won by a 9-7 score at line three, improving to 8-2 in pairs play for 2018.
In singles play, three players –
Samantha Ritz at No. 1, Huffine at No. 2 and
Neah Garza at No. 3 – all won in straight sets. The Nos. 3 and 5 matches took some extra work, where Gomez and Perez won in three sets.
Gomez, Huffine, Ritz and Perez all earned their 12th singles victories of the season. Gomez is 12-5 overall, while Huffine, Ritz and Perez are all 12-6.
