War Hawks Lose Twinbill to Comets

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's softball team dropped both end of its American Southwest Conference doubleheader versus the University of Texas- Dallas – 7-3 and 10-2 - at Red Bud Park. The War Hawks (10-26, 6-19 ASC) and Comets (21-15, 17-9 ASC) will play a single game tomorrow at 12 p.m. to cap the three-game series.

In game one, junior firstbaseman Rachel Ripley had a pair of doubles, going 2-for-4.  Ripley scored twice and had a seventh inning RBI as well. Designated player Kayla Otis was 1-for-4, also having an RBI in the War Hawks' seventh.

Nina Hernandez, Avery McDaniel and Sarah Nagy had McMurry's other three hits. The Comets out-hit McM by a 14-6 margin.

Kamwren Jackson (4-13) went the distance in the circle. Jackson had three strikeouts and just one walk.

The War Hawks miscues early in game two put the hosts in the hole early. Three errors in the second inning alone led to four unearned runs for UTD. The Comets added three in the third to take a 7-0 lead.

McM got two back in their half of the third. Ashley McClellan had a one-out single and scored on an error. Ripley singled and came home on Belle Gomez's singles up the middle to make it 7-2.

The Comets would add single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames, ending the contest on the run rule, 10-2.

Cheyenne West (4-11) took the loss, going 3.0 innings. She was charged with seven runs – just three earned – and had one strikeout and a walk.
