ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's tennis team won for the eighth time in its last nine matches, defeating Sul Ross State University, 9-0, in an American Southwest Conference West Division match at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The shutout was the third blanking of a foe this season by the War Hawks (9-6, 3-1 ASC West).
McM was dominating in easily dispatching of the Lobos. The War Hawks swept all three doubles bouts and then won all of its singles matches in straight sets.
Kiara Jones and
Samantha Ritz won an 8-4 decision at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 line doubles,
Claire Huffine and
Zayra Gomez won 8-0, improving their pairs' record to a team-best 8-2 on the year.
Briana Perez and Kaitlyn Roberts won at third doubles, 8-2.
At No. 1 singles, Ritz topped the Lobos' Alexa Gallardo, 6-4, 6-3. Huffine followed with the win at No. 2 (6-0, 6-1) and Gomez at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-2).
Symphony Munoz won at No. 3 singles, with Perez and
Neah Garza winning at the Nos. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
Ritz, Huffine, Perez and Gomez each earned their 10th victories of the season. Gomez has a team-best 10-4 record.
The War Hawks will face Southwestern University in Georgetown on Saturday (April 14), for a non-conference match.
