TYLER, Texas – McMurry University could not contain a hot-shooting UT-Tyler team as it suffered an 84-60 loss at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center. The War Hawks (1-8) saw the Patriots (3-3) hit better than 50 percent from the floor and 44 percent from beyond the arc.
McM did manage season-high totals in three-point field goals made 12) as a team, as well as three-point attempts (32) and field goal attempts (62). The War Hawks made good on nearly 34 percent (21-62) from the field and 38 percent from long range.
UTT also managed a significant margin on the glass, out-rebounding the McMurry squad, 41-24. That disparity accounted for the Patriots' 42 points in the paint and 11 second-chance points.
The visiting War Hawks trailed 27-15 after the first quarter and 52-26 at the intermission. UTT built on that cushion in the third, taking a 74-36 lead into the final stanza. In the fourth, McM's deft three-point shooting helped the team wipe away some of the Patriots gains, out-dueling the hosts, 24-10, in the fourth.
