Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Reyna tallies double-double in loss at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -  Skyler Reyna's fourth double-double of the season was not enough to help the McMurry University women's basketball team to overtake the University of the Ozarks in a 72-60 road loss. The American Southwest Conference setback left the War Hawks at 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the ASC, while the Eagles improved to 3-5 and 1-0 in league.

Reyna had a game-high totals with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Reyna was 5-of-18 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. She also had a blocked shot and a steal.

Sophomore Jaymi Gordon-Dean was McM's only other player in double-figure scoring with 13 points off the bench. Gordon-Dean shot 4-of-9 from the floor, with all of her field goals made coming from beyond the three-point line.

Junior guard Sarah Doherty was 4-of-12 from the field, scoring nine points. Doherty grabbed five rebounds, passed off two assists, blocked two shots and made a pair of steals. Fellow guard London Weilert added six points, two steals and two assists.

The Eagles were able to create separation from the War Hawks by converting 20-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe. Conversely, McMurry took just 11 attempts, converting eight. McM had just two free throw tries the entire first half as Ozarks built a 37-32 cushion at the break.

McMurry made a big run in the third stanza, tying the game at 39-39 on a trey by Gordon-Deans with 6:23 left. By the 3:16 juncture, the War Hawks had their largest lead – five points – when a fast-break jumper by Doherty made it 46-41 in favor of the guests.

In the fourth, the two teams see-sawed back-and-forth. When Reyna canned the second of two free throws with 3:29 left to be played, McM trailed 62-60.  Unfortunately, McMurry would not score the rest of the way, with the Eagles taking advantage of the War Hawks' drought to close the game on a 10-0 run.

Overall, the game featured five ties and 11 lead changes.

McMurry will next travel to the University of Texas-Tyler on Wednesday (Dec. 5). Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
