BELTON, Texas – McMurry University Men's Soccer saw its season come to an end Tuesday night, suffering a 2-0 defeat at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament. The War Hawks were making their first appearance in the ASC Tournament since 2004.
The War Hawks (6-8-4) were held without a shot in the first half as the Cru (13-3-1) held a 1-0 lead at the half. UMHB got on the board in the 14th minute on a goal by Seth Neveloff.
McMurry would keep the deficit at one as they tried to rally in the second half. The War Hawks' best opportunity came off a set piece in the 62nd minute. After the initial shot by sophomore defender DJ Jaime was saved by the UMHB keeper, senior defender Josh Erwin had his rebound shot miss just miss into the left side of the net.
UMHB extended the lead to the final margin in the 75th minute with a goal by Jacob Cabezas. The War Hawks had a few more chances, but were unable to convert.
Sophomore goalkeeper Aidan Keane took the loss in net, recording two saves. Jaime led the War Hawks with two shots, while Erwin and sophomore forward Jordan Sczech each tallied a single shot.
The Cru outshot the War Hawks 15-4 for the match, but only 4-3 in shots on goal.
