McMurry set to visit top ASC teams

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Soccer takes to the road this week for a pair of American Southwest Conference matchups at Concordia University Texas and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The War Hawks play Concordia at 7:30 p.m. Thursday before taking on the Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

NOTES:

Last Week: The War Hawks played 70 scoreless minutes with UT Dallas before the Comets eventually pulled away for a 3-0 victory. Saturday, McMurry scored a season-high five goals in a 5-2 win over Howard Payne.

Offense breaks out: McMurry's five goals versus Howard Payne topped the previous season-high of three in a win over University of the Southwest. It also snapped a three-match scoreless streak. Aaron Webb tallied two goals and an assist, while Rafael Lara, Javi Mejia and Jordan Sczech each scored one goal.

A Year Ago: Last season the War Hawks upset then 21st-ranked UMHB 1-0 at Wilford Moore Stadium. They played to a 1-1 tie with Concordia in a match that was called due to lightning.

Facing league leaders: McMurry will face the league's top two goal scorers this weekend in Concordia's Omar Aguirre and Mary Hardin-Baylor's Patrick Roach, as each have scored 10 goals.

ASC Standings: McMurry is currently tied for sixth in the ASC with Hardin-Simmons University with 10 points and a 3-4-1 record. It puts them one point ahead of eighth place Louisiana College and two points behind fifth place LeTourneau University.

About CUTX: The Tornados are a perfect 4-0 at home and sit tied for second with UMHB in the ASC at 6-2 with 18 points. They are 7-4-1 overall, and led by senior forward Omar Aguirre's 10 goals.

About UMHB: The Crusaders are tied with the Tornados for second in the ASC at 6-2 with 18 points. Freshman forward Patrick Roach leads the team with 10 goals as UMHB is 10-3 overall on the season. UMHB also leads the conference in goals scored this season.
