War Hawks reach 20 wins yet again

KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University Volleyball picked up its 20th win of the season Tuesday night with a sweep at Schreiner University, 25-16, 25-20, 25-10. It was the second win over Schreiner this season, and gives the War Hawks their 11th 20-win season since 1994. It is also their 6th in eight years. All but one has been under Head Coach Cammie Petree.

The War Hawks (20-5) dominated from the start, jumping out to leads of 15-3 and 21-8. The set included a 9-0 run as the War Hawks hit .324 while holding the Mountaineers to a -.075 attacking percentage. Junior middle blocker Justice McGowan had five of her team-high nine kills in the set.

The Mountaineers (2-21) kept the second set a little closer than the first, as the War Hawks were unable to pull away. McMurry led by as many as six, before Schreiner closed to within 22-20. But the War Hawks put the rally to rest by scoring the final three points of the set.

McMurry cruised in the third set, using runs of 8-0 and 5-0 to seal the match. The War Hawks held the Mountaineers to a negative hitting percentage for the second time in the match.

In addition to McGowan, senior outside hitter Jasmine Jones and junior middle blocker Kianni Mitchell each added eight kills. McGowan hit .643 on the night and Mitchell hit .500.

Senior libero Odalis Rodriguez was the only War Hawk with double figure digs with 23. Junior setter Emarie James paced the War Hawks with 24 assists.
