War Hawks to host rival HSU Thursday

ABILENE, Texas – It's a light schedule for McMurry University Volleyball this week, as the War Hawks only have two games on the slate. McMurry heads to Schreiner University Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a rematch with the Mountaineers, before hosting rival Hardin-Simmons University Thursday at 7 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena.

NOTES:

Last Week: The War Hawks went 2-2 last week, being swept by University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and University of Texas at Dallas on the road before topping Belhaven University, 3-1, and Louisiana College, 3-0. The matches against UTD, Belhaven and Louisiana College were part of the second American Southwest Conference Crossover.

ASC Tournament: A victory over Hardin-Simmons would clinch a berth in the ASC Tournament at UMHB. McMurry currently sits third in the ASC West Division.

Keep Diggin': Senior libero Odalis Rodriguez moved into second place on the all-time digs list when she recorded 25 digs against Belhaven. She has 1,889 digs for her career. She also leads the ASC through all matches with 4.76 digs per set.

Block Party!: McMurry ranks 16th nationally 2.14 blocks per set. The War Hawks are 13th nationally with 179.5 total blocks. Junior middle blockers Justice McGowan and Kianni Mitchell both rank in the top five of the ASC in blocks as well as the top-60 nationally. McGowan totaled 18 blocks during four matches last week at 1.50 per set.

20 Win Plateau: McMurry can achieve its third consecutive 20-win season with a win over Schreiner Tuesday. It would also mark the sixth 20-win season in eight years.

About Schreiner: The Mountaineers have struggled this season, with just a 2-20 overall record. McMurry swept Schreiner on September 12 in Kimbrell Arena. Freshman defensive specialist Elora Reyes leads the Mountaineers with 4.82 digs per set.

About HSU: McMurry defeated Hardin-Simmons in four sets on September 27. The Cowgirls are 15-8, 7-6 ASC on the year. Senior outside hitter Allison Kuster leads the Cowgirls with 2.61 kills per set and is second on the team with 3.39 digs per set.
