RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry University Volleyball was swept in their first match at the American Southwest Conference Crossover, falling to host University of Texas at Dallas 18-25, 14-25, 15-25 Friday evening.
The War Hawks (17-5, 7-4 ASC) had early leads in the first and second sets at 5-2 and 8-6, respectively, but were unable to sustain that success throughout the match. The Comets (14-7, 9-1 ASC) used a 6-0 run in the first set to break an 11-11 tie and another 6-0 run in the second to erase the two-point deficit.
Senior outside hitter Jasmine Jones led the War Hawks with five kills, as McMurry was outhit .256-.048. Junior outside hitter Jordyn Burnell, returning to the McMurry lineup, and junior middle blocker Justice McGowan each added four kills.
Defensively, senior Odalis Rodriguez led the War Hawks with 17 digs. She needs just three digs to move into second-place all-time. Jones tallied 14 digs, while junior setter Emarie James chipped in with seven. James led the War Hawks with nine assists, and sophomore setter Lauryn Davis had eight.
At the net, the War Hawks had five blocks, as Burnell led the team with three assisted.
McMurry continues the ASC Crossover at UT Dallas tomorrow against Belhaven University at noon and Louisiana College at 4 p.m.
