War Hawks Drop Divisional Match-up to UMHB

ABILENE, Texas -   McMurry University's youthful men's basketball team did not have an answer to a hot-shooting University of Mary Hardin-Baylor squad, falling by a score of 101-60 at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks dropped to 4-11 overall and 3-6 in the American Southwest Conference, while the Cru improved to 12-5 and 5-4 in ASC games.

McM could not finds its touch in the first half, shooting just under 30 percent (7-24) from the field, before hitting an improved 44 percent (17-39) in the second half. Normally, that might have been enough, were it not for UMHB hitting close to 54 percent (36-67) of its shots for the game.

The Cru also created distance from the War Hawks by hitting better than 47 percent – 17-for-36 – from beyond the three-point arc. McMurry also had 17 of its turnovers converted into 25 points by UMHB.

Sophomore guard Zacc Carter led McM in scoring, tallying 19 points.  Carter hit 8-of-16 from the floor and was 3-for-5 from long distance.  He also grabbed four rebounds.

Khalil Butler came off the War Hawks bench to score 12 points as the team's only other double-digit scorer.  Butler was 5-for-8 from the field. He also hauled in five rebounds and made a pair of steals.

Mike Williams Jr. and LaRandall Scroggins each chipped in six points. Williams led all rebounders with seven boards. Elijah Johnson had five points, as well.

The War Hawks will look to snap their eight-game skid next Thursday (Jan. 18) when they travel to face ASC West division leader Sul Ross State University.
