TYLER, Texas – The McMurry University men's soccer team gave the American Southwest Conference's second place team – the University of Texas-Tyler – all it could handle, before the two foes eventually forged a 0-0 tie in double-overtime. The War Hawks emerged from the match with an overall record of 4-4-1, 1-2-1 in the ASC, while the Patriots are 5-2-3 on the year and 4-1-1 in ASC play.
Both goalkeepers – John McGuffin (two saves) of UTT and McMurry's
Alex Chavez (six saves) – were both impenetrable. But Chavez had several stops that were of the spectacular brand, including a header off a corner kick on a bang-bang play with just two seconds left in the second overtime segment.
Jesus Sanchez and
Rafael Lara each had a pair of shots for the War Hawks.
Javi Mejia and
Mazin Elhassan each had one shot on-goal.
Overall, McM was out-shot by a 22-7 margin and 6-2 for shot on-goal.
The War Hawks will open a two-game home stand beginning on Thursday versus Louisiana College at Wilford Moore Stadium.
