LONGVIEW, Texas – McMurry University volleyball dropped a five-set thriller versus Belhaven University to close out play at the American Southwest Conference crossover tournament at the Solheim Arena of LeTourneau University. The War Hawks (9-5 overall) lost to the Blazers (8-6) by scores of 23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-10, 15-12.
It was McMurry's third match this season to go the maximum five sets.
The War Hawks team hit .215 for the afternoon, rolling up 68 kills in 200 attack attempts, with 25 errors. McM's squad amassed 9.0 team blocks, as well. BU had 6.0 team blocks. Nine serve errors hindered the McM efforts.
Individually, the War Hawks dominated the attack statistics, with four players with double-figure kill totals (and all with more more than any Belhaven player).
Jordyn Burnell topped the McM team with 15 kills, followed by 14 from
Jasmine Jones.
Justice McGowan and
Madison Reed each chipped in 13 kills.
McGowan also had a match-leading five blocks.
Setter
Emarie James had 39 assists, with
Lauryn Davis adding 20 helps. Libero
Odalis Rodriguez led then back row with 29 digs, while
Christian Brown had 22.
McMurry had six aces, compared to eight by the Blazers. Burnell, Brown and Rodriguez each had a pair of aces to account for the War Hawks' total.
McMurry will return to action next Tuesday (6 p.m.) when it travels to ASC West leader Concordia University-Texas.
