ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry women's tennis train kept on rolling along on Saturday morning, winning its 12th-consecutive match, 8-1, over Howard Payne University at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks improved to 12-4 overall (3-0 ASC West) and the YellowJackets fell to 3-12 (0-2 ASC West).
McMurry's doubles teams continued to provide the squad with a strong base to build upon in matches, once again posting wins in all three slots. At No. 1 doubles, senior
Bree Brosig and sophomore
Samantha Ritz registered their team-leading ninth win (9-5 overall) by an 8-6 margin over Alex Marlin and Chesney Goza.
At No. 2 doubles, seniors
Chloe Patterson and
Gabby Camacho won for the eighth-consecutive time (8-1 on the year) with their 8-3 victory over Brittony Walker and Callie Molloy of HPU. At No. 3 doubles,
Neah Garza and
Zayra Gomez defeated Breanna Hunt and Erin McCleer to up their record in doubles to 8-5 in 2017.
In singles, the War Hawks made sure the YellowJackets had no thoughts of a comeback, winning all six matches in straight sets. McM's 1-2 punch of Patterson and Brosig at Nos. 1 and 2 singles set the pace. Patterson topped Marlin, 6-0, 6-3, while Brosig tripped up Walker, 6-2, 6-0.
At third singles, Ritz chalked up her 13th-consecutive singles win with her 6-1, 6-2 decision over HPU's McCleer. Ritz improved her season record to 14-2 overall.
McM's other two team points came from the Nos. 5 and 6 slots. Camacho had matters well-controlled in her 6-2, 6-0 win over Hunt, while
Symphony Munoz took care of Molloy, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
