War Hawks' Win Skein Reaches 11 with 8-1 Win Over UTD

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University women's tennis team added to its school-record winning streak, taking down the University of Texas-Dallas, 8-1, for its 11th-consecutive victory. The War Hawks improved to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the American Southwest Conference West Division, while the Comets are 0-6 and 0-1 in the ASC West.

McM grabbed the early 2-1 match lead after the completion of doubles.  The War Hawks won at the Nos. 2 and 3 slots.  Playing No. 2 doubles, seniors Chloe Patterson and Gabby Camacho improved their record as partners to 7-1 in 2017, thanks to their 8-2 win over UTD's Sumvruta Iyengar and Michaela Gulasy.

At the No. 3 position, sophomore Zayra Gomez and freshman Neah Garza scored an 8-2 win over the Comets' tandem of Natalie Djabarov and Justine Borchard. The Gomez-Garza duo has amassed a record of 7-5 in pairs play.

In singles play, the War Hawks' six made short work of their UTD foes, winning each match in straight sets.  McM lost a total of just 16 games during the entire day.

At No. 1 singles, Patterson was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Iyengar, as she improved to 9-5 on the year. Fellow senior Bree Brosig won by a 6-3, 6-2 score at No. 2 singles over Sophie Farmer.

At third singles, McM's super sophomore Samantha Ritz won her 12th-consecutive singles match, topping Elizabeth Labra, 6-3, 6-3.  Ritz improved her personal singles record to a team-leading 13-2 in 2017.

Another sophomore, Zayra Gomez, is close behind Ritz as she upped her season mark to 11-3 and picked up her 11th-straight singles win. Gomez tossed a shutout at UTD's Gulasy, 6-0, 6-0.

Camacho also put up the "double bagel" against Djabarov, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.  Sophomore Symphony Munoz hit the right note versus the Comets' Borchard, scoring a 6-1, 6-1 win.

The War Hawks will host Howard Payne University at 9 a.m. on Saturday. It is Senior Day for the McM teams.
